Life of Socrates (Diogenes Laertius, Lives II 18–47)
Βίοι καὶ γνῶμαι τῶν ἐν φιλοσοφίᾳ εὐδοκιμησάντων, II 18–47

The fullest ancient biography: his parents' family and trades, the campaigns, the marriages to Xanthippe and Myrto, the text of the indictment Favorinus says he saw in the Metroon, the vote count, dozens of sayings and anecdotes—Xanthippe and the water, the agora full of things he does not need—and Apollodorus' chronology. The main source of almost all the anecdotes in circulation about Socrates.

Authorship note
A chapter of the work of Diogenes Laertius (3rd century CE), a compiler writing more than six centuries later. It gathers reports from lost authors (Aristoxenus, Demetrius of Phalerum, Favorinus) without checking them: useful for chronology and anecdotes, unreliable in detail.
