Heshang Gong's Commentary on the Laozi
老子河上公章句

A reading of the Daodejing oriented towards bodily cultivation and government: each chapter receives a title and a gloss linking the preservation of vital energy with the art of ruling. It was the most widely read commentary in religious Taoism and the basis of the recension that rivalled Wang Bi's for centuries.

Authorship note
Attributed to a legendary "Old Man of the Riverbank" said to have instructed Emperor Wen of the Han; in reality an anonymous work of the Later Han, according to the most accepted dating.
