Lesser Hippias
Ἱππίας ἐλάττων

After a display by the sophist Hippias of Elis, Socrates argues over whether Achilles or Odysseus is the better Homeric hero and reaches the paradoxical thesis that whoever errs voluntarily is better than whoever errs involuntarily. It is a provocative exercise that presupposes the Socratic conviction that no one does wrong knowingly.

Authorship note
A work by Plato, not by Socrates. It is a literary recreation composed after his teacher's death: it preserves features of the historical Socrates, but his words are those Plato gives him.
