Oeconomicus (The Estate Manager)
Οἰκονομικός

A dialogue on managing a household and a farm. Socrates reports to Critobulus what Ischomachus, a model landowner, taught him about educating his young wife, domestic order and agriculture. It is an exceptional document on economic life and the condition of women in classical Athens.

Authorship note
A work by Xenophon (c. 430–354 BCE), a pupil of Socrates in his youth, who was in Asia at the time of the trial. It mixes his own memories, others' reports and literary elaboration with an apologetic aim.
