Prapañcasāra Tantra (The Essence of Manifestation)
Traditional attribution
Prapañcasāra Tantra (The Essence of Manifestation)
प्रपञ्चसारतन्त्र

A Tantric manual in verse on the emanation of the cosmos from sound, the letters as divine powers, mantras, ritual diagrams and the worship of various deities. Its ascription to Śaṅkara served lineages that joined Advaita with Goddess worship; Arthur Avalon published it in 1914 in his series of Tantric texts.

Authorship note
Traditionally ascribed to Śaṅkara and included in the Vani Vilas edition of his complete works (a29); modern scholarship, since Hacker and Mayeda, accepts as authentic only the major commentaries and the Upadeśasāhasrī, so this work is recorded as attributed. It is the most debated case: a Tantric treatise on worship and mantras that is hard to reconcile with the doctrine of the commentaries. Spanish title descriptive.
