Correspondence

Letter to Samuel ibn Tibbon

אגרת לר׳ שמואל אבן תבון

Retrato imaginario de Maimónides (Ugolini, 1744)
byMaimonides

Letter to his Hebrew translator, who had announced his intention to visit him. It contains advice on how to translate (attending to the sense and not to the letter), judgements on which philosophers are worth reading (Aristotle, al-Farabi, Avempace, Averroes) and which are not, and a description of his exhausting day as court physician, which is why he discourages the journey.
