Letter on Astrology (to the Sages of Montpellier)
אגרת אל חכמי מונטפשליר (על גזרת הכוכבים)
Reply in Hebrew to the rabbis of southern France, who asked him about the validity of astrology. Maimonides rejects it as false and idolatrous science, distinguishes astronomy, a demonstrative science, from astrology, and warns that belief in astral fate destroys moral freedom and responsibility. Its authenticity has been debated, though most accept it.
