Confucius's Discussion of the Odes (Kongzi shilun)

孔子詩論

Retrato de Confucio por Kanō Sansetsu
byConfucius

A commentary on the sections and poems of the Book of Odes in which “Confucius said” introduces judgements on the meaning of each ode. Published in December 2001, it is the oldest witness of a Confucian reading of the Shijing, two centuries earlier than the Han glosses, and has generated hundreds of studies.

Authorship note

Twenty-nine Warring States bamboo slips (state of Chu), acquired by the Shanghai Museum on the Hong Kong market in 1994. The title is modern and disputed: Li Xueqin proposed calling it simply “Shilun,” since it is an exposition invoking Confucius rather than a text written by him.
