Khusraw-nama (Gol and Hormoz)

خسرونامه / گل و هرمز (Khusraw-nama o Gol o Hormoz)

La asamblea de las aves
byAttar

A courtly, not mystical, romance about the love of Gol, daughter of the king of Ahvaz, and Hormoz, illegitimate son of the Byzantine Caesar, raised in secret in the house of the royal gardener. After a tale of adventures, renunciations and discoveries, the lovers marry. The preface claims to versify a prose work by one Badr Ahvazi, and the episodes seem to grow from local legends. Its similarities with Nezami's *Khosrow and Shirin* are not enough to prove dependence.

Authorship note

Disputed authorship. Reinert (1987) considered it authentic, in two versions by Attar himself. Mohammad Reza Shafi'i-Kadkani (1996, 1999) argued that it is a later forgery and that the *Khusraw-nama* Attar mentions is the *Ilahi-nama*; Landolt (2006) regards the thesis as proven. Austin O'Malley (2019) has challenged it with a manuscript of 1297 (BnF) that already contains the romance and its preface under Attar's name. Others assign it to an Attar of Mianeh.
