La asamblea de las aves
byAttar

A short moral rule-book in rhyming couplets, in grammatically very simple language, which only in its nine closing lines reaches Attar's level. It was widely copied and commented on, translated many times into Turkish, and was the first 'Attar' work translated in Europe: Silvestre de Sacy published it in Paris in 1819 as *Pend-Namèh, ou le Livre des conseils*.

Authorship note

Apocryphal according to Ritter: the text contains no indication of Attar's authorship, there is no trace of it before the fifteenth century and its language is dry and trite; Nafisi, by contrast, defended it. Even so it became hugely popular, especially among the Turks.
