The Interpreter of Desires (Tarjuman al-ashwaq)

ترجمان الأشواق (Tarjuman al-ashwaq)

Ibn Arabi a caballo con dos discípulos (miniatura safaví)
byIbn Arabi

A collection of love poetry in the tradition of the Arabic qasida: abandoned encampments, departing camels, gazelles and gardens, and a beloved inspired by Nizam, daughter of the Persian scholar with whom he studied in Mecca. Its famous ode XI proclaims a heart "capable of every form" and a "religion of love". The author's own commentary reads every image as a symbol of divine realities and is one of the keys to the Sufi hermeneutics of erotic language.
