The Secret of the Veda — Sri Aurobindo

Written work

The Secret of the Veda

Sri Aurobindo hacia 1900
bySri Aurobindo

It proposes a “psychological” interpretation of the Rig Veda against Sayana’s ritualist reading and the naturalist one of European Indologists: the hymns would encode a spiritual path, and Agni, Indra, Soma or the cows and horses would be symbols of forces and states of consciousness. It includes philological studies and translations of hymns to Agni, Indra and other gods. Contested by academic philology and influential in esoteric readings of the Veda.
