Bhai Bala Janamsakhi
Later compilation
Bhai Bala Janamsakhi
ਭਾਈ ਬਾਲਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਜਨਮਸਾਖੀ

The most widespread janamsakhi in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, supposedly narrated by Bala, Nanak's travelling companion. It supplies the Kattak birth date and many miracles. McLeod showed that Bala is probably a figure created by the Handali sect.

Authorship note
Not Nanak's work: a seventeenth-century compilation with later interpolations.
