Hymns and stanzas in the Guru Granth Sahib (the complete corpus)
ਸਬਦ ਅਤੇ ਸਲੋਕ (ਮਹਲਾ ੧)

The whole body of some 974 compositions by Nanak —shabads, ashtapadis, chhants, saloks and vars— spread across nineteen ragas: Sri, Majh, Gauri, Asa, Gujri, Vadhans, Sorath, Dhanasari, Tilang, Suhi, Bilaval, Ramkali, Maru, Tukhari, Bhairo, Basant, Sarang, Malar and Prabhati. The pieces with their own titles are recorded separately; the rest are short hymns exploring the Name, grace, the ego, truth and the critique of ritual religion.
Authorship note
Compiled by Guru Arjan (1604) from the Goindval pothis and other collections of the gurus; the count of 974 pieces is the most widespread (some give slightly different figures depending on how the saloks are counted).
