Arti ("Gagan mai thal")

ਆਰਤੀ (ਧਨਾਸਰੀ)

Guru Nanak en un mural del gurdwara Baba Atal Rai
byGuru Nanak

A hymn in raga Dhanasari that replaces the arti ceremony, the offering of lamps before the image, with a cosmic liturgy: the sky is the tray, the sun and moon the lamps, the stars the pearls, the wind the fan. Tradition says Nanak sang it at Puri, before the temple of Jagannatha. It forms part of the Kirtan Sohila.
