Πολιτεία

In the Piraeus, at Cephalus' house, Socrates refutes the sophist Thrasymachus' definition of justice (book I, Socratic in manner) and, at the request of Glaucon and Adeimantus, builds an ideal city to see justice writ large. Books II–X set out the tripartite soul, the philosopher-rulers, the Form of the Good, the cave and the myth of Er: Plato's doctrine with Socrates as spokesman.

Authorship note
A work by Plato, not by Socrates. It is a literary recreation composed after his teacher's death: it preserves features of the historical Socrates, but his words are those Plato gives him.
