Aeschines of Sphettus, present at the trial and the death according to Plato, wrote dialogues prized in antiquity for their fidelity to Socrates' manner, such as the Alcibiades and the Aspasia, of which extensive passages survive. Antisthenes, founder of the Cynic tradition, Phaedo of Elis and Euclides of Megara also composed Socratic discourses. Their remains show that Plato's Socrates was not the only one possible.
