Kālāma Sutta (Kesamutti Sutta)

Buda de pie, arte de Gandhara
bySiddhartha Gautama, the Buddha

The Kalamas of Kesaputta, bewildered by teachers who contradict one another, ask whom to believe. The Buddha advises them not to accept a doctrine because of tradition, scripture, logic or the teacher's prestige, but to see for themselves whether it leads to harm or to well-being. It is among the most quoted Buddhist texts of modern times, often out of context.
