Buda de pie, arte de Gandhara
bySiddhartha Gautama, the Buddha

A vast scripture in which the newly awakened Buddha manifests himself in all worlds at once, and whose last book, the Gandavyuha, tells of the young Sudhana's pilgrimage through fifty-three teachers. Its vision of the interpenetration of all phenomena founded the Huayan school and nourished Chan and Zen.

Authorship note

A Mahayana sutra that places its teachings in the Buddha's mouth; scholarship regards it as a composition much later than his lifetime. It is a compilation of independent texts preserved complete mainly in Chinese (translations by Buddhabhadra, 420, and Siksananda, 699).
