bySiddhartha Gautama, the Buddha

Two sutras, the “larger” and the “smaller,” in which the Buddha describes to Ananda and Sariputra the Land of Bliss of the buddha Amitabha and the vows by which whoever invokes him with faith will be reborn there. Translated into Chinese from the second century onwards, they underpin the Pure Land schools of China and Japan.

Authorship note

A Mahayana sutra that places its teachings in the Buddha's mouth; scholarship regards it as a composition much later than his lifetime.
