Retrato imaginario de Maimónides (Ugolini, 1744)
byMaimonides

Reasoned enumeration of the 613 commandments of the Torah (248 positive and 365 negative), preceded by fourteen methodological principles determining what counts as a biblical commandment. Written in Arabic in preparation for the *Mishneh Torah*, it argues against the enumeration of *Halakhot Gedolot*. Nahmanides devoted a systematic critique to it. In negative commandment 290 he justifies that no one be condemned on circumstantial evidence, however strong.
