The Guodian Laozi (bundles A, B and C)
郭店楚簡《老子》甲、乙、丙

The 71 slips contain some two thousand characters corresponding to 31 chapters of the received text, in a different order and with substantive variants: missing, for instance, is the attack on benevolence and righteousness in chapter 18. Bundle C is accompanied by the Taiyi sheng shui ("The Great One Gave Birth to Water"), a cosmological text unknown until then. Published in 1998 as Guodian Chu mu zhujian, they are the oldest witness of the Laozi and have forced the text's history to be rewritten.

Authorship note
Three bundles of bamboo slips (39, 18 and 14 slips) found in 1993 in tomb 1 at Guodian, Jingmen. They are not a "draft" of the Daodejing but selections from material not yet fixed.
