byJesus of Nazareth

An account of the life and, above all, the death of Joseph, presented as a discourse by Jesus to the apostles. It describes the old man's agony, the arrival of death and Jesus's intercession for his adoptive father, and lies at the origin of devotion to Saint Joseph as patron of a good death.

Authorship note

Anonymous; preserved in Coptic and Arabic, it is dated to the sixth–seventh centuries. The story is put in the mouth of Jesus, who tells it to his disciples on the Mount of Olives. M. R. James partly summarises it.
