Onkar (Ramkali Dakhni)

byGuru Nanak

An acrostic poem in raga Ramkali on the letters of the alphabet, beginning with the sacred syllable Onkar. Tradition links it to a visit by Nanak to the temple of Omkareshwar, on the banks of the Narmada, and to a dispute with pandits; it teaches that true learning is that which leads to the Name, not erudition.
