正法眼蔵 現成公案

Dōgen contemplando la luna (Tsukimi no zō)
byDōgen

A letter written in autumn 1233 for a lay disciple from Kyūshū and later placed at the head of the collection. It contains Dōgen's most quoted formula: to study the way is to study the self, to study the self is to forget the self, to forget the self is to be verified by the myriad things. With the images of firewood and ash or the moon in a dewdrop, it sets out the relation between practice, realisation and impermanence.
