Preached in 1244. It goes through the thirty-seven factors of awakening of the early tradition and rereads them from Zen practice; it includes a defence of monastic over lay life. According to the colophon, it was preached or written at Kippō-ji (Echizen).

Fascicle of the 75-fascicle collection (kyūsō, "old draft"), arranged by Dōgen himself. A text he wrote in Japanese; most fascicles were preached to the community and later copied by his disciple Koun Ejō, whose colophons give date and place.
