Psychology of the Unconscious (Transformations and Symbols of the Libido)

Wandlungen und Symbole der Libido

C. G. Jung en Küsnacht, 1955
byCarl Gustav Jung

An analysis of the fantasies of a young American woman, 'Miss Miller', which becomes a vast survey of solar, hero and rebirth myths. Jung redefines libido as general psychic energy and proposes that myths express collective contents of the psyche. Published in two parts (1911–1912), it precipitated the break with Freud. Jung rewrote it in 1952 as Symbols of Transformation (GW/CW 5).
