Ennead VI.9 [9]: On the Good or the One
Περὶ τἀγαθοῦ ἢ τοῦ ἑνός
Every being is what it is by being one. After ascending through soul and Intellect, Plotinus shows that the One is none of the things and is reached only by a presence superior to knowledge, when the soul strips itself of all form. He describes union as the meeting of centre with centre and ends with the formula that sums up Plotinian mysticism: the flight of the alone to the Alone. Porphyry placed it at the end of the Enneads.

Authorship note
An authentic treatise by Plotinus, no. 9 in Porphyry's chronological order (Life of Plotinus 4–6), first period (treatises 1–21, written before Porphyry's arrival in 263). The title and the placement in Ennead VI are Porphyry's.
