A history of the Diveyevo communities from their founder, Mother Alexandra, to the end of the nineteenth century, which is also the main collection of Seraphim's oral teaching to the sisters: advice on prayer, work, obedience and joy, prophecies about the convent, the ditch he had dug around the Mill community, his farewell words and the lives of his disciples. The second edition (1903) includes a new life of Seraphim and was the documentary basis for the canonisation.

Authorship note
The work of Archimandrite Seraphim (Leonid Chichagov, 1856–1937, later metropolitan and martyr), who ordered an archive of sixty Diveyevo notebooks containing recollections of the sisters, of Manturov and of Motovilov. It contains many of Seraphim's sayings in direct speech; Rochcau considers Chichagov's transcription faithful, but the recollections were written decades after the events and he did not describe notebooks 40–60, Motovilov's.
