The second life, reworking Sergius's and adding episodes absent from it: the forest animals that came to Seraphim, the multiplication of food, the apparitions of the Virgin and the conversation with four Old Believers. It marks the beginning of the miraculous growth of the tradition.

Anonymous, attributed to Hieromonk Georgy of the Spaso-Vifansky monastery, formerly guestmaster at Sarov under the name Gury; published in the journal Mayak (vol. 16, 1844) and as a book in St Petersburg (1845).
