Seraphim of Sarov
The Rule of the Theotokos

The Rule of the Theotokos
Богородичное правило

A recitation of the angelic salutation in its Orthodox form, one hundred and fifty times, divided into decades accompanied by the Lord's Prayer and the meditation of a mystery from the Virgin's life. Tradition holds that Seraphim recommended it to the Diveyevo sisters as a path 'walked by the Mother of God herself'; in the twentieth century it spread widely in Russia and the diaspora.

Authorship note
A practice spread under his name (one hundred and fifty 'Rejoice, O Virgin Theotokos' in fifteen decades, each with an intention). The attribution rests on the Diveyevo tradition and later prayer books; it is not in the Instructions of 1839 or in the Conversation, and no contemporary witness placing it in his mouth has been located.
