Yoga Vāsiṣṭha (Mahārāmāyaṇa)

योगवासिष्ठ (Yogavāsiṣṭha), también महारामायण

Nārada en la ermita de Vālmīki
byValmiki

A great philosophical dialogue in six books in which Vasiṣṭha teaches the young Rāma that the world is a projection of the mind and that liberation is possible in life. Vālmīki appears as narrator within a chain of frames, which made it possible to present the work as a 'Great Rāmāyaṇa' complementing the epic poem. Its main entry is under Vasiṣṭha.

Authorship note

Tradition ascribes the whole work to Vālmīki, because the narration of the dialogue between Vasiṣṭha and Rāma is put in his mouth. It is a medieval work: a Vedāntic reworking of the Kashmiri Mokṣopāya (10th c.), according to Slaje and Hanneder; earlier datings ranged from the sixth to the fourteenth century.
