Adbhuta Rāmāyaṇa (The Wondrous Rāmāyaṇa)
Traditional attribution
Adbhuta Rāmāyaṇa (The Wondrous Rāmāyaṇa)
अद्भुतरामायण (Adbhutarāmāyaṇa)

A Śākta rewriting of the story of Rāma in which the leading role passes to Sītā: after Rāvaṇa's death a thousand-headed Rāvaṇa appears whom Rāma cannot defeat, and Sītā, transformed into the goddess Kālī, destroys him. An example of how Vālmīki's name served to lend authority to new theological readings of the story.
