The Prophet

Gibran's masterpiece. Almustafa, who has waited twelve years in the city of Orphalese for the ship that will take him home, answers before leaving the questions of the seeress Almitra and the townspeople on twenty-six subjects: love, marriage, children, giving, work, joy and sorrow, freedom, reason and passion, pain, friendship, prayer, beauty, religion and death. Rhythmic prose with biblical resonances, illustrated with twelve drawings by the author. Despite cool reviews it has never gone out of print since 1923 and has been translated into more than a hundred languages.
Authorship note
Written in English by Gibran after years of drafts; Mary Haskell revised the text with him, sentence by sentence, between 1918 and 1923, according to her journals.
