An anthology of prose pieces, poems and essays published in Cairo by Yusuf Bustani, gathering work from 1912–1922: portraits of figures such as Ibn Sina, al-Ghazali and Ibn al-Farid, reflections on the Arabic language and the short drama 'Iram, City of Lofty Pillars'. It shows Gibran's interest in Islamic mysticism and his will to renew Arab culture.
