A long poem in classical Arabic metre, built as a dialogue between an old man of the city, who bitterly describes human conventions, and a youth of the forest who answers with the song of nature and the flute. Gibran published it with his own drawings; in the twentieth century Fairuz popularised a setting of its verses ('Give me the flute and sing').
