Fihi ma fihi (Discourses)
فیه ما فیه (Fihi ma fihi)

Table talk and answers to visitors' questions (among them the Seljuq minister Muin al-Din Parvana), in plain Persian prose with passages in Arabic. It is Rumi at his most conversational: he explains his parables, discusses theology, politics and the relation between master and disciple, and lets his humour show. It contains the famous passage on the one thing that must not be forgotten, the task for which the human being was sent into the world, and many parallels with the *Masnavi*.

Authorship note
Seventy-one conversations of Rumi recorded by disciples, probably around Sultan Walad; the title ("In it is what is in it") is not Rumi's. Critical edition: Foruzanfar, Tehran, 1951.
