Kabir Granthavali

कबीर ग्रंथावली (Kabīr granthāvalī)

Kabir y Ravidas
byKabir

A corpus of *sakhis* arranged by theme (*ang*), *padas* for singing and some *ramainis*, preserved by the followers of Dadu Dayal in Rajasthan. According to Hawley, the western Kabir is more devotional than the Punjabi one; in it Nath yogi influence, devotion to Ram and sant ethics coexist. Its couplets are the ones that have passed into everyday speech in northern India. Charlotte Vaudeville translated the *dohas* into French (1957) and English (1974).

Authorship note

Modern title of the editions of the western or Rajasthani tradition, based on the Dadupanthi anthologies (*Panch-vani*, *Sarvangi*), in which 'Kabir's voice' is the second largest after Dadu's. Shyamsundar Das edited it in 1928 from a manuscript claiming to date from 1504, a date not accepted by scholarship: the known Rajasthani manuscripts belong to the seventeenth century.
