The Four Complexions (A Consolatory Treatise)
Trostschrift von vier Complexionen

A short pastoral piece for the afflicted and tempted soul. It describes the four temperaments (choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic and melancholic) and how each experiences temptation, with special attention to the melancholic, prone to believe himself abandoned by God. It is a text of counsel, of a psychological delicacy uncommon in Böhme.
