Ennead VI.8 [39]: On free will and the will of the One — Plotinus

Written work

Ennead VI.8 [39]: On free will and the will of the One

Περὶ τοῦ ἑκουσίου καὶ θελήματος τοῦ ἑνός

Cabeza de mármol identificada con Plotino (Ostia, inv. 436)
byPlotinus

It starts from the problem of what is up to us and takes it to the One: the One is the product neither of chance nor of necessity but cause of itself, and its being coincides with its willing. It is the treatise in which Plotinus ventures furthest in positive language about the One, always with an "as if".
