Simplicius' Commentary on the Handbook
Σιμπλικίου ἐξήγησις εἰς τὸ τοῦ Ἐπικτήτου Ἐγχειρίδιον

A chapter-by-chapter commentary on the Handbook from a Neoplatonist perspective, probably written after the closure of the Academy at Athens (529). It transmits biographical reports—Epictetus' secluded life and the adoption of a child—and mentions Arrian's Life of Epictetus.

Authorship note
A work by Simplicius of Cilicia, a sixth-century Neoplatonist, not by Epictetus. It is recorded as the main ancient source on his life and the fullest reading of his work.
