菩提達摩南宗定是非論 (Putidamo nanzong ding shifei lun)
A public attack on the school of Shenxiu and Puji: Hongren's legitimate succession runs through Huineng, the proof is Bodhidharma's robe and the true teaching is sudden. It is the key document for understanding how the figure of the sixth patriarch was built.

Authorship note
A work by Shenhui (684–758), compiled by Dugu Pei, recording the Huatai assembly (732); not by Huineng, but the first source proclaiming him sixth patriarch. Hu Shi recovered it from the Dunhuang manuscripts.
