Commentary on the Diamond Sūtra (attributed)

金剛經解義 / 金剛經口訣 (Jingang jing jieyi / koujue)

Daikan Zenji (Huineng), templo Shōfukuji
byHuineng

A gloss on the Diamond Sūtra from the doctrine of self-nature and non-abiding. Its existence shows how the sixth patriarch's prestige drew texts towards his name, in parallel with the growth of the Platform Sūtra itself.

Authorship note

A commentary and “oral instructions” on the Diamond Sūtra transmitted under Huineng's name and included in anthologies of commentaries from the Song period onwards. The attribution is late and scholars regard it as apocryphal: the Huineng of tradition was illiterate.
