Raymond of Capua's Legenda maior

Legenda maior (Vita sanctae Catharinae Senensis), de Raimundo de Capua

Santa Catalina, por Andrea Vanni (San Domenico, Siena)
byCatherine of Siena

The official life of Catherine written in Latin between 1385 and 1395 by her last confessor, Raymond of Capua, master general of the Dominicans, from his own memories, the notes of Tommaso della Fonte and testimonies from her circle. It is the main source for almost all the episodes of her childhood, the mystical espousal, the exchange of hearts and the stigmata, and it is built on hagiographic models to promote canonisation. Scholars use it cautiously, distinguishing what Raymond witnessed from what he gathers from tradition.
