Prayers

Orazioni

Santa Catalina, por Andrea Vanni (San Domenico, Siena)
byCatherine of Siena

Twenty-six prayers spoken aloud by Catherine, almost always in ecstasy after communion, and transcribed by her secretaries between 1376 and 1380, most of them in Rome during the schism. They are prayers to the Trinity, to Christ and to the 'eternal Godhead', of a lyrical intensity culminating in the identification of God's nature with fire and in intercession for the Church and her disciples. They show the final Catherine, consumed by the Church's crisis.
