Sophist

Plato

A Stranger from Elea, of Parmenides' school, speaks in Socrates' place and seeks to define the sophist by successive divisions. The hunt leads to a deeper problem: if the sophist produces falsehood, one must admit that not-being in some way is. The Stranger commits 'parricide' against Parmenides and sets out the communion of the greatest kinds (being, motion, rest, same, other). A capital work of ontology.
