A portrait of Russia's patron saint, founder of the Trinity monastery in the fourteenth century, whom Helena Roerich presents as guardian of the Russian land and a model of labour, humility and service. It joins history and hagiography with the Roerichs' conviction that St Sergius belonged to the Hierarchy of masters.

Authorship note
An essay signed with the pseudonym N. Yarovskaya and included in the collective volume Znamya Prepodobnogo Sergiya Radonezhskogo (Riga, 1934), with texts by Vasily Klyuchevsky and Nicholas Roerich.
