The Soliloquy of the Soul — Thomas à Kempis

Written work

The Soliloquy of the Soul

Soliloquium animae

Thomas a Kempis escribiendo (miniatura de la Imitación)
byThomas à Kempis

Chapters of inner dialogue between the soul and God, in the manner of St Augustine: the soul listens to what the Lord says within it, weeps for its faults, seeks consolation in trials and longs for union. In tone it is the writing of Thomas closest to Book III of the Imitation, and one of the internal arguments for his authorship.
