My Land and My People — The 14th Dalai Lama (Tenzin Gyatso)

Written work

My Land and My People

El Dalai Lama en 2012
byThe 14th Dalai Lama (Tenzin Gyatso)

His first autobiography, written in exile barely three years after the escape and published in New York in 1962. It recounts his childhood in Amdo, the recognition, his education in Lhasa, the arrival of the Chinese army, the journey to Beijing and the departure from Tibet in 1959. It is as much a political document as a personal one: it sought to present the Tibetan cause to international opinion just as the UN had passed its first resolutions. Adriana Straijer's doctoral thesis (University of Barcelona, 2014) studies it as the founding text of all his later autobiography.
