Treatise of the Three Impostors (spurious)

Traité des trois imposteurs / L'Esprit de Spinosa

Retrato anónimo de Spinoza (Wolfenbüttel)
byBaruch Spinoza

A pamphlet presenting Moses, Jesus and Muhammad as impostors which circulated in manuscript and in print under Spinoza's name to lend it authority, sometimes alongside Lucas's biography. It is an important document of the radical reception of Spinoza in the clandestine Enlightenment, not a work of his.

Authorship note

A spurious work: an anonymous clandestine French treatise of the early eighteenth century, sometimes titled L'Esprit de Spinosa, which draws on passages from Spinoza, Hobbes and other authors. It is not by Spinoza.
